JV Boys win another close one

JV Boys defeat the Wakefield Wolverines in another close game. The Caps led throughout the first and second quarters having only a one point lead at the end of the first and a two point lead at the end of the second.
This entire week the Caps have faced really fierce opponents and the Wolverines were definitely one. In the 3rd quarter the Wolverines capitalized on some really good plays and took the lead 43 to 40. In the 4th quarter the game was tied 47 all with 4:34 minutes left on the clock. The Caps played really good defense and hussled on both ends of the court, but the Wolverines would stay really close.
At 1:10 left on the clock, the score was tied 54 all. Would the Caps go into overtime or send them home?
The Caps chose to send them home, by continuing to play good-d and kept their heads. The final score Caps 59 to Wakefield's 54. Go CAPS!

JV will host Enloe on Monday, January 31st at 7:00pm.

JV Boys take the 'W'

The JV Boys Basketball Team played well Thursday night. Right off the bat, Trey Peace was on fire...raining in the first 9 points for the Caps. The Caps enjoyed double-digit leads; however, the Cougars would linger around and at the end of the first half trailed by only 6 points (Caps 37-Cougars 31). After the break, Coach Harrell and the Team continued to play good defense and get make good baskets, they led 52 to 45 at the end of the 3rd. In the 4th Quarter -- THIS IS WHERE IT GOT A BIT INTENSE -- the Wake Forest-Rolesville Cougars stayed focused and came to within 2 - 4 points several times. The crowd was loud and it was anybodys' game.....BUT.....the Caps also stayed focus and the fans cheered them on to victory. The final score was Caps 74 - Cougars 68.
Next Game is Saturday, January 29 at 3:00 in Holliday Gym. We will play Wakefield.

Caps Pride defeated the Lions

The JV Caps basketball team played the Leesville Lions and were able to pull off the win Tuesday night. The Caps led early on, but seemed to make a number of sluggish passes causing a slew of turnovers and the Lions were able to come roaring back and battled to the end.
With 6 minutes left in the 4th the Caps were down by 12, but the team stuck to the basics and played hard-nosed defense and were able to defeat Leesville by one point, 'we'll take that'. The final score was Caps 61- Lions 60.
January 27, Thursday night the Caps will travel to Wakeforest-Rolesville.

JV Caps first defeat of the season

The JV Caps Basketball Team were coming off a 12 point victory Friday night, after defeating the Sanderson Spartans back on January 3rd. The first snow of 2011 hit and they had a day off and somehow seemed out of rhythm for Friday nights game against Millbrook.
At the end of the first, Broughton was down by only 3 points. The team seemed sluggish, but at the end of the half they went to the locker room with a one point lead (27 to 26). The Caps could not seem to pull to a substantial lead and took their first loss to Millbrook - final score was Broughton 41, Millbrook 54.

Friday night HOME game!! "A Battle of the IBs"....

Men's Varsity (13-4, 5-1, #6 N&O ranking) hosts Millbrook in a "Battle of the IB programs"!!Nothing academic about this conference match up as the margin of victory has been no more than 7 points in their last 5 games they have played each other. Millbrook plays a smothering, physical, full court man -to- man defense and it will be a very competitive defensive WAR! Always is! Broughton won the first game (49-43) at Millbrook this year and I know they will be seeking revenge but hopefully our home crowd will pull us to victory!

HOME game time is 7:00pm in Holliday Gym with Women's Varsity at 5:30pm.

Varsity rallies to OT, loses 66-57

BY JONATHAN RAND - N&O Correspondent

RALEIGH -- Enloe held off a solid Broughton comeback to claim a 66-57 Cap Eight 4-A boys basketball victory in overtime on Tuesday night.

Enloe (8-4, 4-0 and No. 12 in the N&O rankings) is tied with Wakefield for the league lead.

Broughton (10-3, 3-1) had shared a piece of the conference lead before the loss.

The score was tied at 49-49 at the end of regulation, and Broughton seemed to have the momentum with its home crowd on its feet, but the Eagles hit crucial shots, and the Caps seemed to run out of steam.

The game started off with a bang as Broughton used a barrage of 3-pointers to gain an early edge.

Enloe then tightened its defense as a frantic pace ensued midway through the first half.

Both teams pushed the tempo with the Eagles using their size down low to gain a 28-23 halftime lead.

The Eagles' Marcus Walker, who finished with 20 points, dominated play for much of the night and helped Enloe score the final 12 points of the third period for a 40-28 lead.

"I was impressed with how they played defensively," Broughton coch Jeff Ferrell said. "They forced us to get away from the things that got us here."

The Caps clawed their way back into the game using solid defense and some late-game heroics by guard Conor Strickland.

Strickland led all scorers with 23 points.

Broughton outscored the Eagles 21-9 in the fourth quarter.

BRO 12 11 5 21 8 - 57
ENL 13 15 12 9 17 - 66

Points: BRO--C. Strickland 23, S. Battle 13, C. Stewart 10, D.Graham 7, S. Kipuni 2, A.Ocampo 2; ENL--M.Walker 20, A.Bost 15, D.McAdams 13, Jas.Blakney 6, M.Dix 4, J.Miller 4, S.McGee 4.
