Broughton CapsLax Defeats a Feisty Garner Team
Broughton defeated a feisty Garner team, 16 vs. 2, last Friday evening. Garner continues to show improvement each year. In what has become a hallmark of this year’s team, the CapsLax defense was solid again allowing only 6 shots on goal, while forcing at least 15 turnovers on the evening. Both Garner goals came on man-down situations after penalties. Garner had great difficulty running any kind set offense for they were clearly overmatched on the CapsLax defensive end of the field. Perhaps the biggest surprise of the evening, however, was the Garner defense. Historically Garner has been known as a physical team and last Friday night was no different. Several CapsLax players got their bells rung, but this time the hits were clean and not out of frustration like in past seasons. Slowly the CapsLax offense adjusted and the team got another diverse outing with 9 different players contributing points on the night. Scoring was lead by senior captain Mitchell Dupere (4 goals & 5 assists), Sonny Creech (3 goals & 1 assist), Carl Churchill (2 goals), Justin Moore (2 goals), Sam Cramer (1 goal & 1 assist) followed by Johnathan Burke, Michael Eades, Coleman Whyte, Oliver Fleming all with one goal each. (Note: This author thinks Coleman should be credited with an assist for playing bounce-back with goalie’s facemask straight into the hands of a teammate who proceeded to score.) A closing credit goes out to the Garner goalie which played very well stopping at least 20 good shots on goal, otherwise the final score could have been much more lopsided.
