The Broughton Boy’s CapsLax Team won handily over SE Raleigh on Tuesday night, 3/15, by a final margin of 22 - 0. The outcome of the game was never in doubt as Broughton lead 12 – 0 at the end of the 1st period. In the possession and ball control aspects of the game, Broughton won nearly every face off and ground ball. If we didn’t, then our defense quickly converted the SE Raleigh possessions into a turnover. So dominant was Broughton’s defense that SE Raleigh managed only one legitimate shot on goal the entire game, which was handled easily by Austin Johnson, who recorded his first career shutout as the starting goalie.
On offense, nineteen different players contributed points, either goals or assists, creating the most balanced and prolific scoring contribution from any Varsity CapsLax game in recent memory. Mitchell Dupere and Dillon Pitts lead all goal scorers with 3 each, followed by Jimbo Dixon, Christian Harrell, and Coleman Whyte, who scored their first 2 goals of this season and their varsity careers. Rounding out the goal scoring included Dane Angell, Forrest Buckthal, Johnathan Burke, Carl Churchill, Sonny Creech, Colt Crouch, Michael Eades, Oliver Fleming, Aaron Kelley, and Dylan Stone who each recorded one goal in the game. Perhaps even more impressive was the assist-to-goal ratio—15 of the 22 goals recorded an assist. Mitchell Dupere tied a career high with 4 assists, followed by Colt Crouch and Justin Moore who each recorded 2 assists. Dane Angell, Sonny Creech, Michael Eades, Kelton Jones, Carter Robinson, and Battle Smith all recorded one assist on the night.
A closing credit and compliment goes out to the entire SE Raleigh team for maintaining player enthusiasm and determination throughout the game despite such a significant CapsLax opponent.
