Three Varsity Softball Games This Week

The Broughton Varsity Softball team will have a busy week, adding a make up game tomorrow at home with Middle Creek. The Lady Caps will host the Mustangs at the Pullen Park Field, off of Pullen Road on the campus of NC State University. Game time is 4 PM and admission is free.

The Caps will travel to Heritage High School on Tuesday and then to Wakefield on Thursday. Both games are scheduled for 4 PM.

Last Thursday, the softball team had a nail biter with rival Enloe High School. The Caps won their first conference game for Head Coach Dorrian Stephens, beating the Eagles by a score of 9-8. Junior Sarah Dodson, who displayed outstanding defensive play, was the winning pitcher for the Caps. The entire Broughton team made numerous outstanding defensive plays, including sophomore Morgan Buonpane, who retired all three batters in the 5th inning. Every player in the Lady Caps line up either had a hit, an RBI or scored a run. The offensive attack included two hits by Morgan Buonpane, Gina Guzzo and Kristi Parker.  Apryl Olko had a double, while Valerie Guzzo, Garett Hedgepeth, and Cole Bellamy all had singles.  Morgan Bounpane scored three runs, and Apryl Olko, Valerie Guzzo, Gina Guzzo, Kristi Parker, Cole Bellany and Lindsey Warren all scored one run. Garett Hedgepeth and Gina Guzzo each had three RBIs while Valerie Guzzo had one RBI.

The Junior Varsity Softball team will host Wakefield this Thursday at the Pullen Park Field. Game time is 4 PM and admission is free. Good luck to both teams this week!
