Varsity CapsLax Pin Enloe on Heels, 16 vs. 2

The Varsity Boy’s CapsLax team defeated a defense-oriented and pesky Enloe team last Thursday evening, 16 vs. 2. As usual when playing conference rival Enloe, the game was emotional and often marred with penalties throughout. This game was another outstanding team effort by the defensive unit and complete goalie play by junior Austin Johnston. Enloe was limited to only 6 good shots on goal all evening. All clears to transition were successful. You know your defense is having a good night when faced with a man-down penalty situation, they cause a turnover, clear quickly to open field transition, enter cleanly inside the box, and dish to an open attackmen for a easy lay-up. Give a shout out to Harrison Black who registered an assist for that type of play which exemplifies the total team defensive effort in this game.

For the fourth game in a row, the CapsLax had balanced offensive production lead by senior Sonny Creech, who registered a 5-point game (4 goals & 1 assist), junior Dane Angell (3 goals & 2 assists), and senior Mitchell Dupere (3 goals & 1 assist). Of particular note, senior Oliver Fleming had his best all-around game of the season, registering 2 goals and 1 assist; it was good to see him dodge effectively from the midfield with confidence, athleticism and skill. Rounding out the balanced offensive production were seniors Coleman Whyte and Sam Cramer, and juniors Battle Smith and Justin Moore, who contributed with 1 goal each. Senior Michael Eades registered 1 assist and put point on the stat sheet for at least the third game in row. The balanced team play, both on defense and offense, is important going into the pivotal conference match-up against perennial state power Cardinal Gibbons in the next game on Tuesday, 3/2. A tie for 1st place in the conference is on the line.
