Caps come up short in State Tennis Playoffs

The Men's Tennis Team hosted a very good East Chapel Hill team on Tuesday in the third round (Eastern Region Semifinals) of the NCHSAA Dual Team State Playoffs.After six singles matches the score was tied 3-3 with Staats Battle, Patrick Longest and Carlton Bunn winning.There were 3 tie-breakers played in the first six singles matches.After two doubles matches and a win by Carlton Bunn/Alex Pollock, the score was tied at 4-4. It came down to the last doubles match where Alex Waddell/Patrick Longest made an incredible comeback to tie the game score 8-8 playing to 10. East Chapel Hill pulled out the last two games to win and win the overall match 5-4.

It was a great High School atmosphere with some very competitive tennis. There were over 100 people in attendance with former players, students, teachers, Mr. Mares, parents, friends, supporters etc.Broughton finished the season with an impressive 19-2 overall record and a Cap-8 Conference Championship and Port City Invitational Tournament Championship.
