The Broughton Men's Tennis Team (19-1) beat a young, good Green Hope team by the score of 8-1 in the second round of the NCHSAA 4-A Dual Team Tennis State Playoffs. Alex Waddell, Staats Battle, Carlton Bunn, Alex Pollock and Peter Kelly won their singles matches. Steed Johnson/Staats Battle, Alex Waddell/Simon Collis, and Carlton Bunn/Alex Pollock all won their doubles matches.
There are now four teams remaining in the East. Next Tuesday, May 17, Millbrook will play at New Hanover in one Semifinal match and Broughton will host a favored East Chapel Team in the other Eastern Regional Semifinal at 4:00 at HOME on Tuesday, May 17.
It should be some great high school tennis. East Chapel Hill has the #1 ranked player in the 18 year olds in the State and their top three players have all committed to playing tennis in college next year. Broughton will be the underdog but they will be ready to defend their home courts.
