Varsity Softball Recap

The Broughton Varsity Softball Team completed one of the most successful seasons in its history this past spring under Head Coach Dorian Stephens and assistants Chris Frasier and Brandi Keys.

The Lady Caps finished the season with an 8 and 6 record in the conference and a third place finish in the conference. The Caps clobbered Enloe in the first round of the Cap 8 tournament to make it to the semi-finals for the first time ever but lost in the second round to eventual tournament champion Leesville. The Caps then went on to compete in the North Carolina State Softball Tournament but lost to Riverside of Durham in the first round.

Four of the Lady Caps were selected for the All Conference team. Those players were senior left fielder Apryl Olko, senior catcher Gina Guzzo, sophomore third baseman Nicole Bellamy, and sophomore shortstop Garett Hedgepeth. Honorable mention awards went to junior pitcher Sarah Dodson, sophomore second baseman Morgan Buonpane, and sophomore right fielder Valerie Guzzo. The future looks bright for Broughton softball next year with only three seniors graduating, Gina Guzzo, Apryl Olko and Lela Rucker.
