Broughton Adds Four Coaches

Broughton High will have four new head coaches as fall sports practice begins during the next few days.  Jim Frey (volleyball), Laura Davidson (girls tennis), Steve Smith (girls golf) and Nick Wheeler (boys soccer) are the new coaches.

"We have a lot more changes than usual," said Jack Spain, Broughton's athletic director. "We're very fortunate to put together this group of coaches. I feel like we hit the jackpot.
"Our players and our parents are going to be very pleased."  Frey, Davidson and Smith have long ties with the Broughton athletics program. Wheeler has been an assistant boys soccer coach at Leesville Road.

Frey has extensive club volleyball experience and was a volleyball coach at Raleigh Magellan Charter.
Davidson is a longtime tennis player and has been involved in the Broughton tennis program.
Smith has worked with the Broughton boys golf team the past two years. He has been involved with junior golf for 25 years and has been officiating golf for several years.
