Volleyball: The past weeks events

I have been remiss in my blogging duties and I apologize.  The Lady Caps competed against Millbrook, Leesville, and Wake Forest-Rolesville over the past week.

Millbrook has a very strong team, and we competed in every set, ultimately losing 3 sets to none. The team play was strong.

Against Leesville, the team struggled but continued to play, again losing 3 sets to none.

A new system was installed integrating more players into the fray (no pun intended). With only 2 practices to put the new system in place, we traveled to Wake Forest-Rolesville to take on the Cougars. The team came out "smoking hot" and quickly raced to a 2 sets to none lead. WF-R fought back and tied the match winning the next 2 sets. The Lady Caps came out in the 5th set and set the pace taking an early lead and prevailing 15 to 13. Our passing, which is so essential, was anchored by our Libero, Valerie Guzzo.  Without good sets, we can't score, Jessica Brustofski and Peyton Strickland put the ball where all our hitters could make kills.  Mary Neil Hodl led the hitters with the most kills!  Essence Perry and Katie Lee Jones provided strong front row defense, each recording several blocks.  It's our first CAP 8 win, with a strong indications of more to come. Come down and watch us play!!

Broughton Volleyball

Losing is a very tough pill to swallow, but we've got to learn from our mistakes and make progress. The Lady Caps lost to Cary, Wakefield, and Sanderson this week. All the players got court time and touches, and all the players gave 100%. The effort has to be there in order to move ahead!! The team continues to get strong play from our 2 middle hitters/blockers Essence Perry and Katie Lee Jones. Each match they make progress. Our passing has been very respectable, anchored by Valerie Guzzo, Garette Hedgepeth, and Maggie Carraway. We welcomed a new player to the roster. Logan Ayscue has moved up from the JV. Please make her feel welcome. Matches next Tuesday at HOME versus Millbrook and Leesville. Come on out and cheer for us!
