JV Boys BB

The Broughton Boys Jayvee Basketball team won two close conference games this week to improve their record to 10 and 4.

Wakefield - Monday, January 9th

On Monday night the team travelled to Wakefield. Broughton took an early lead and led by six points at the half, and held that same lead after three quarters 41-35.

Wakefield opened the fourth quarter with aggressive play and Broughton trailed by 4 with less than a minute to play. Vonshae Lewis hit a three pointer, to close the gap to one. After a Wakefield turnover, Yousif Mohamed was fouled as he made a driving layup. He made the free-throw giving Broughton a 51-49 lead with less than 12 seconds to go. Wakefield was unable to score and Broughton won 51-49.

Vonshae Lewis was the leading scorer with 20 points!

Sanderson - Friday, January 13th

Broughton hosted Sanderson at Holliday Gymnasium on Friday night. Though Sanderson was a much taller team, Broughton controlled the game through the first half and led by six at halftime 29-23.

Broughton played poorly in the third quarter scoring just six points and trailed by 4 at the end of the third quarter with the score Broughton 35, Sanderson 39.

Sanderson scored the first basket of the fourth quarter and led by seven before Broughton caught fire. With Brooks Palmer leading the way with 9 4th quarter points and Yoel Griffin with six, Broughton scored a total of 23 fourth quarter points to rally and win by two - 58-56.

Broughton's record now shows 10 wins against 4 losses. The Caps record in conference play is 4 and 3. There are seven games remaining. Our next game is at home on Thursday, Jan. 19th, against Millbrook, as we begin play against our conference opponents for the second time. Our JV Boys really appreciate your support.
