Caps Tennis Wins Conference Title

The Broughton boy's tennis team closed out the regular season last Thursday with an 8-1 victory over Sanderson.   Winning players for Broughton were Andrew Waddell, Alex Pollock, Dixon Ferrell, Bryant Bost, Patrick Bryant, and David McGee in singles, and Taylor Boole/Campbell Stone and Bryant Bost/Dixon Ferrell in doubles.  Seniors Bryant Bost, Dixon Ferrell and Alex Pollock were recognized after the match for Senior Day.

The win moves Broughton to 15-3 and 13-1 in the conference for the regular season.  Broughton shared the conference championship with Wakefield, and the seeding for the state playoffs likely will be decided by a coin toss as the teams split their regular season matches.

The team now moves into post-season play. In tennis, state titles are awarded both to individual champions and team champions.  The conference tournament will be held this week to award individual champions in both singles and doubles, with the top players moving on to regional and then state individual competition.  The dual team format for the team state championship starts on May 1.  The playoff brackets are not yet set, but Broughton should be one of the favorites to compete for the state title.
