On The Back Nine

There's a lot going on for the Men's Golf team as we approach the proverbial back nine of the season. In a non-conference match on Thursday, April 19th the Caps took on Cardinal Gibbons at Raleigh Golf Association. George Kilgore led Broughton with a 73, John Irby shot a 77, Kirkland Caison shot 78 and John Hogan shot an 81 for a team total of 309. Even though the Crusaders won by three strokes our coaches were thrilled to field some different players - those team members gained valuable experience that will serve us well next year!

The men take on the conference at Hedingham in the final CAP8 match of the season today. Come on out and watch the Caps close out the regular season with a solid win - they aim to tee-it-up to bring home that conference title for the first time in two years & with a mantra to finish strong as they transition into Regional / State Championship mode...it promises to be an exciting afternoon of golf!

On that note - Regionals will be held at Raleigh Country Club on Tuesday, May 8th. On Sunday, April 22nd the coaches announced the team for Regionals as: George Kilgore, Preyer Fountain, Court Settle, Will Minton, Harrison Rhoades and Stephen Saleeby (left to right pictured below)

As an aside - this Men's golf team has not only represented Broughton on the couse during regular conference and non-conference play - most of them spend their weekends with a club in their hands. Six members of the team played in the UNC Golf For Promise Junior Classic at Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill last weekend. Five of our players finished in the top 10 in the tournament with Broughton's Will Minton winning the high school division. Will shot a great round of 68 - beating the states number one ranked player by 2 shots! Preyer Fountain shot 71 to finish 3rd, Harrison Rhoades with a round of 72 finished 5th,  Kirkland Caison shot a 74 with a three under par score on his back nine! Stephen Saleeby shot a a solid 75 and Sam Holden had an 82 to round out the BHS representation. Go Caps!

I figure practice puts your brains in your muscles.
