Broughton JV Lady Caps Now 11-1 After Defeating Wake Forest - Rolesville 60-21

The Broughton JV Women's Basketball team is now 11-1 on the season and 9-1 in the CAP 8 after defeating Wake Forest Rolesville 60-21.  The Lady Caps held the Cougars to just one point in the first quarter, ending the quarter with a 12-1 lead.  Broughton's Brittney Smith was on fire with 17 total points, including 4 three-point baskets.  Katie Wadsworth contributed 16 points on the night.  Other scorers for the evening:  Jessica Willettes-7; O'Shaela Wilkins-Peebles-6; Addie Yancey-3; Daisy King-2; Josie Rouse-2; Amelia Rustin-2 Eliza Taylor-2; Emma Willard-2; and Lizzie Mann-1.

Broughton Football Coach Resigns


HighSchoolOT.com reports that Broughton's head football coach, Chris Martin resigned from his position on Wednesday. Coach Martin will remain at Broughton as a teacher.

Alumus: Goodwin Academic All-American of the Year

TOWSON, Md. – Senior goalkeeper Scott Goodwin of the University of North Carolina lead the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Men’s Soccer Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Goodwin has been chosen as the winner of the Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year award for the Division I Men’s soccer team.

A biology major with a 3.95 G.P.A., Goodwin was named as the Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year in Division I men’s soccer. He has led the No. 5 Tar Heels (16-3-3) into the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Cup quarterfinals against Indiana taking place Friday, Nov. 30.

A native of Raleigh, N.C., Goodwin leads the nation in goals against average (0.26) and ranks second in save percentage (.878). He has allowed just six goals, the fewest in the country, and has posted 17 shutouts, setting the UNC single season mark. His 17 shutouts are tied for the fifth-most in any season in NCAA history. Goodwin is UNC's career leader with 41 shutouts, the seventh most in NCAA history.

A Capital One Academic All-America® men’s soccer second team selection in 2011, Goodwin has earned Dean's List honors every semester and is set to graduate in three-and-a-half years. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.

Varsity Lady Caps Have Big Win Over Leesville Pride 48-26

The Varsity Lady Caps won big tonight over Leesville High School. The final score was 48 to 26.  All players got to play in this game and did a great job. Congratulations to Catherine Becton and Jamella Foster who were selected as Co-Players of the Game on Max Preps.  Catherine Becton made an unbelievable thread the needle pass to Jamella Foster for a great basket.  Box Scores:  Jamella Foster-13, Catherine Becton-8, Megan Sullivan-7, Nadine Ealey-6, Dejah Cheatham-4, Kaila Ealey-4, Justice Byrd-2, Chelsey Floyd-2, Kimberly Spruill-2.

JV Lady Caps Defeat Leesville Pride, 69-15


Monday, the JV Women's Basketball team rebounded from their loss last week at Millbrook to soundly defeat Leesville, 69-15.  The Lady Caps held the Pride to just 7 points in the first half.  As usual, the Broughton Women brought their strong defense.  This was a scoring night, though. Four players had three point baskets.  Ten of the players scored and those who did not score had rebounds, assists and steals credited to their stats.  Freshman Katie Wadsworth led the scoring with 15 points, all in the first half.  Other scorers for the night included:  Brittney Smith-12; Jessica Johnston-9; Emma Willard-9; Josie Rouse-5; Addie Yancey-5; Daisy King-4; Jessica Willetts-4; Eliza Taylor-4; Sallie Allen-2.

Daisy King's last second buzzer beater put Caps up 41-7 at the end of the first half.



                   

Swimmers and Divers Head to Regionals

     On Friday, Broughton divers Angela Duncan, William Sally, Tate Preston, John Rogers and Alex Lewontin will compete in the Eastern Regional Diving Competition at Pullen Pool here in Raleigh.  Admission is $6.00.  The women will begin competition at 2:00 and the men will begin no earlier than 4:25.
     On Saturday the swimmers take to the pool for the Eastern Regional Swimming Competition at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary.  Once again admission is $6.00.  The meet will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will end around 12:30.  The women competing will be:
Adaira Brewer - 50 free, medley relay, 200 free relay, 400 free relay
Elisabeth Holmes - 200 IM, 500 free, medley relay, 200 free relay
Rachel Shaw - medley relay, 200 free relay, 400 free relay

The Varsity Boys Basketball team travels to Leesville on Tuesday for a 7:00 PM game. The Millbrook game has been re-scheduled for this Thursday. The team will take on Wake Forest Friday at home. Busy week for the Caps.

Varsity Lady Caps Beat Rival Sanderson-60-53

On Tuesday, January 23 2013, the Varsity Lady Caps added another win to their schedule and beat the Sanderson Spartans by 7 points.  Nicole Bellamy was selected the Player of the Game on Max Preps.  Box Scores: Nadine Ealey-13, Justice Byrd-11, Jamella Foster-8, Kaila Ealey-8, Kimberly Spruill-6, Chelsey Floyd-5, Megan Sullivan-4, Nicole Bellamy-3, and Dejah Cheatham-2. JV Lady Caps Fight Until the End But Come Up Short Against Millbrook, 46-50

On Thursday, the JV Women's Basketball team suffered their first loss of the season to the Millbrook Wildcats, 46-50.  The Lady Caps overcame a 12 point first half deficit to lead 46-44 with 1:38 to go in the game!  The Lady Caps kept pushing their defense and never gave up.  They just needed a few more baskets to fall.  Scorers for the night:  Jessica Johnston-16, Jessica Willetts-10, Emma Willard-8, Katie Wadsworth-6, Addie Yancey-5, Sallie Allen-1.

The Lady Caps are at home Monday, January 28th, playing Leesville High School at 5:30pm.  We hope to have a great crowd cheering these ladies on to victory!

Success on the Road Again...JV Lady Caps win 52-16!

The Broughton JV Women's Basketball team defeated the Sanderson Spartans Wednesday 52-16, improving their record to 6-0 in conference play and 9-0 overall.  The Lady Caps continued their relentless defense... swatting down a number of shots tonight, going after rebounds and hustling down the court to prevent fast breaks by the Spartans.  Scorers for the night included:  Katie Wadsworth-12, Emma Willard-8, Lizzie Mann-7, Addie Yancey-6, Jessica Johnston-5, Jessica Willetts-5, O'Shaela Wilkins-Peebles-3, Amelia Rustin-2, Brittney Smith-2, and Eliza Taylor-2.

BIG WEEK FOR VARSITY BOYS BASKETBALL. The team plays Sanderson on Wednesday and Millbrook on Friday. Both games are at home. The team is coming off an impressive 53-41 victory last Friday at Wakefield. The Caps' conference record is 5-1.

Please come support our Lady Caps as they take on Sanderson High School on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 and Millbrook High School on Friday, January 25, 2013 at Home.  Both games are at Broughton and start at 5:30 pm. The Lady Caps strive to have two wins next week and increase their winning record.  They are at 12-3 overall and 4-2 in the conference after the disappointing loss to Wakefield on Friday night.

Both the Women’s and Men’s Swim/Dive Teams finished in 5th place at the end of day one of the CAP 8 swimming and diving championships held this weekend.  The meet will finish on Friday with the diving event.

Many swimmers lowered their times during the meet.  Notable swims were:
Bancks Holmes took 2 seconds off his 200 free time and qualified for regionals.
Will Beasley took 4 seconds off his 200 IM time.
Aly Williams took 1.3 seconds off her 50 free time and 1.8 seconds off her 100 free time.
John Paul Baric took .9 seconds off his fly and 1.2 off his breaststroke.                                   
Duncan Matthew took 2.3 seconds off his 100 free time.
Kelsey Moore took 1.4 seconds off her 100 free time.
Adaira Brewer took 1.3 seconds off her 100 free time.

Lady Caps Beat Heritage Huskies 51-42

Lady Caps had another game that was too close for comfort.  They beat the Heritage Huskies by 9 points because they were able to overcome some of the missed opportunities during the game and play together as a team.  Jamella Foster was lead scorer with 17 points. Dejah Cheatham also had a great game with 10 points and was selected as Player of the Game on Maxpreps.

JV Women's Basketball Team 8-0!

To quote Coach Chris Willard, "The Broughton JV Lady Caps are on the rise!"  On Thursday evening, the JV Women's Basketball Team defeated Heritage High School 56-28 to improve their record to 5-0 in the conference and 8-0 overall.  Despite offensive difficulties in the first half, the team's trademark defense allowed the Lady Caps to force turnovers that converted to points.  Team Captain, Addie Yancey put up 20 of Broughton's 56 points.  Other scorers for the evening included Katie Wadsworth-8; Brittney Smith-7; Jessica Johnston-6; Emma Willard-6; Eliza Taylor-5; Amelia Rustin-2; O'Shaela Wilkins-Peebles-2.

On Monday, January 7th, the JV Girls came back from a 13-2 deficit in the first quarter and soundly defeated the Enloe Eagles 68-39.  With numerous substitutions,  Coach Chris Willard was able to use the depth of the Lady Caps bench to wear down Enloe.  The Lady Caps kept the pressure on! Varsity Lady Caps Basketball Team 2012-2013


Varsity Lady Caps Dominate Wake Forest Rolesville 64-44 Friday night

The Lady Caps started out slow in this game, but ultimately got their rhythm back and began playing hard.  They beat Wake Forest Rolesville 64 to 44 Friday night at Wake Forest Rolesville. We had two girls with injuries that could not play, Justice Byrd and Chelsey Floyd, and pray for a quick recovery for both of them.  Nadine Ealey's three point shooting was on target as she hit several three point shots. We had 4 players in double digits, Nadine Ealey, Megan Sullivan, Nicole Bellamy and Kaila Ealey. If the girls will remember to play together as a team, be unselfish during the game, and focus on winning as a team, we will continue to have a strong season and position ourselves for a State Championship.

JV Lady Caps Sail Past Wake Forest - Rolesville 54-20.

With Thursday's 54-20 win over Wake Forest - Rolesville, the JV Lady Caps remain undefeated.  Once again the girls came out with strong defense. Thanks to the energetic crowd, the intensity remained high throughout the game despite the large point spread.  Katie Wadsworth and Addie Yancey both drained a pair of 3-pointers.  Scores for the night were:  Emma Willard-16; Katie Wadsworth-10; Addie Yancey-8; Sallie Allen-6; Jessica Johnston-6; Josie Rouse-4; Brittney Smith-2; Lizzie Mann-2.  In addition, Amelia Rustin, Eliza Taylor, and O'Shaela Wilkins-Peebles provided productive minutes to help the team solidify the victory over a physical Wake Forest - Rolesville team.

The JV Lady Caps are playing again at 5:30pm on Monday, January 7th at Enloe High School.  We encourage you to come out and support your undefeated Capitals!!
