Caps Softball Beats Devil Out of Imps

Cary -  On Wednesday the varsity Caps emerged victorious for the first time this season, defeating the Cary High Imps 8 to 1.  The Caps, still plagued with injuries, notched 12 hits in 32 at bats, leaving six runners stranded over seven complete innings.  Sophomore pitcher English Dean went the distance, recording 7 strikeouts while issuing only 2 walks.

The Caps started strong in the top of the first, with a leadoff single and a stolen base by junior catcher Shannon Denny.  Also reaching base in the first were Dean, senior centerfielder Garett Hedgepeth and senior outfielder Val Guzzo.  With a walk by senior second baseman Morgan Buonpane, and a fielder’s choice single by Bianca Dunn, the Caps closed out the first with four runs.  Dean scored in the fourth, along with junior Catherine Becton and senior Maggie Carraway off a double by Hedgepeth.  Junior first baseman Taylor Trigg singled in the fifth but was left stranded at second after being advanced on a sacrifice bunt from senior third baseman Cole Bellamy.  Freshman shortstop Lidia Seifert doubled in the sixth, and Denny added a run in the seventh.

On Friday the Caps take on the Enloe Eagles in a Cap 8 Conference game at home at Pullen Park field.
