Men's Golf Spring Swing

Men's golf has a spring schedule packed with conference matches and statewide tournaments.
The Caps lost their conference opener by a couple of painful strokes to Leesville on Monday at North Ridge Country Club despite Will Minton's stellar one under par 35 and Preyer Fountain and Harrison Rhoades both shooting even par. Stephen Saleeby, Court Settle and John Hogan were all over par to round out the top six playing in the first match. With a two-day turnaround and practice interrupted by high winds - the Caps headed to their second conference match looking for a win. Kirkland Caison was the hero for the day bringing it home with birdies on his final two holes for a one under 35, Will Minton continued his great play with a one under as well, Preyer Fountain kept it even with a 36, Stephen Saleeby and Harrison Rhoades both shot 37's and the Caps won their second conference outing.
On Friday, March 8th the Caps took two teams to Clayton for The Neuse - Clayton High Invitational.
Purple team: Preyer Fountain, Will Minton, Harrison Rhoades, Stephen Saleeby and Court Settle
Gold Team: Kirkland Caison, Hardy Hogan, John Hogan, Ben Lease and Jack Nelms
This tournament field was deep - eight of the twelve teams from last year's state championships were represented. The Caps had a rough day - Court Settle led the Caps in scoring with an even par 72 and Stephen Saleeby shot a 73 - but the Purple team finished the day at 304 as a team - 9 strokes off the winner - Leesville.
To put the depth of this conference in perspective - the Carolinas Golf Association ranks North Carolina Junior golfers - 22 of the 431 ranked junior boy golfers in the state are in the Cap8 - 11 are in the top 100 - 7 in the conference are ranked in the top 50 - the Caps boast 5 of the top 50 players in the state - these guys are working hard for Broughton - with that in mind - the competition continues this week when we host conference play on Wednesday, March 13th at CCC - come out and support your team - looks like a gorgeous sunny day and they are fun to watch!
