NCHSAA publishes list of 100 Coaches to Remember

Israel “Izzy” Hernandez (Broughton)
Nationally recognized soccer coach that has one of the most distinguished coaching resumes in NC high school athletics…began coaching both the men’s and women’s varsity soccer teams at Broughton High in 1989…achieved nine high school state titles with the Broughton girls and an additional two state crowns coaching the Broughton boys…his women’s teams were nationally ranked for 15 consecutive years at one point…member of the North Carolina Soccer Hall of Fame and the Broughton Sports Hall of Fame.


Steve Spivey (Broughton)
Distinguished tennis coach that served Raleigh Broughton for over 20 years, building a outstanding program and perennial tennis power in the process…coached the Broughton men to state championships in 1988, ’89, ’90, ’92, ’94, 2002, ’03, ’04 and ’05, and also earned state crowns with the women in 1995, ’96, ’98, ’99, 2000, ’01, ’02 and ’03…former National High School Tennis Coach of the Year.
