Soccer: Caps Settle for Tie with Holly Springs

The men's varsity soccer team got off to a great start against a tough Holly Springs team on Thursday night, but had to settle for a 2-2 tie after Holly Springs converted a penalty kick with less than two minutes to go in the game.

The Caps' Ibrahim Mohamud got the scoring started early in the first half as Broughton applied steady pressure in the non-conference home game. But Holly Springs battled back, with Broughton keeper Frankie Stallings making a great save on a corner kick before Holly Springs eventually tied the game 1-1 with about 11 minutes to go in the first half.

The teams went back-and-forth in the second half with few shots on goal until Broughton's Ben Youngblood buried a bullet in the back of the net from midfield to give Broughton a 2-1 lead with just over 17 minutes left in the game. Two Holly Springs players picked up yellow cards as they fought furiously to get back in the game. They finally did, with a penalty kick just before the game ended.

The Caps start their conference schedule on Tuesday with a home game against Wake Forest. Several Broughton soccer alumni will be honored at halftime, so come on out to support the team.

The JV team also tied Holly Springs after the visitors scored a late goal to even the score at 3-3. Sheenaymu "C" Gay scored twice and Grant Tyler scored once for Broughton.
