Soccer: Caps Score Big Win Over Leesville

Three Broughton players scored their first goals of the season as the Caps dominated in a 4-1 home win Monday night against Leesville.

Moe Matheka
The Caps' Moe Matheka got the scoring started six minutes into the game with a shot from outside the box for his first goal of the season.

Broughton continued to apply pressure, with defenders Ben Youngblood and Jack Krueger just missing wide on shots over the next two minutes.

Broughton struck again 28 minutes into the half when David Winter was there to finish off the rebound when the Leesville keeper could not hold on to a shot by the Caps' Ike Drooz. It was Winter's first goal of the season.

Six minutes later, Krueger gave the Caps a 3-0 lead going into the half when he fired a pass from Matt Brickhouse into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.

Jack Krueger
Leesville came out aggressively to begin the second half, with Krueger stopping a potential Leesville goal off a corner kick less than three minutes into the half. Leesville finally got on the scoreboard when they converted a penalty kick awarded due to an inadvertent hand ball in the box by a Broughton defender.

But Broughton eventually regained control of the game, with the Caps' Chris Vlahoplus just missing on a shot 12 minutes into the half.

About midway through the half, Broughton took a 4-1 lead when Ibrahim Mohamud headed in a shot by the Caps' Yusef Mohamud that bounced off the center post.

Earlier, the junior varsity team defeated Leesville, 3-0. Bryant O'Neal scored twice off of assists by Sheenaymu "C" Gay and Jesse Dean. Gay also scored a goal, with an assist by Luis Cisneros-Gazga.

Broughton plays at Millbrook Wednesday night in a key conference match-up.
