Broughton Varsity Volleyball Extends Undefeated Record to 12-0 in Conference!

After an exciting week and two hard fought matches, the Lady Caps maintain their undefeated status (12-0) in the Cap 8 Conference by defeating Leesville and Millbrook. Travelling to Leesville last Tuesday, the Broughton Varsity Volleyball won in straight sets, 27-25, 28-26, and 25-12. As the scores indicate, the first two sets could have gone either way, but the girls found a way to hold off the scrappy Pride and pull out a victory.

Thursday's match brought Millbrook to Holliday Gym looking to avenge their loss to Broughton at home earlier this season. Unlike their first match up, the Lady Caps came out ready to play in the first set and found a battle on their hands. Broughton edged Millbrook in the first set 26-24, and then behind some terrific serving and defense, the won the second set easily 25-13. Millbrook wasn't ready to go home yet and in an exciting third set that saw the lead change hands several times, they won 26-24. The fourth set saw more of the same excitement and once again Millbrook came away with the win, 25-22 forcing a deciding fifth set. Coach Traci Smith reminded the returning players of what took place last year, where Millbrook won in 5 sets, and challenged the team to come together and not let that happen again, not in "their house!". The girls responded beautifully and captured the last set and the match 15-12. This grueling battle lasted over 2 1/2 hours and Broughton amassed a whopping 55 kills, 78 digs and 11 aces.

Thank you to all the fans that came out to support the Lady Caps and made their presence known in a loud and boisterous fashion. The team really appreciates all the support!

This week brings three critical matches for the Broughton Varsity Volleyball team. They will travel to Sanderson on Monday, 10/7 followed by what will be another tough match-up on Tuesday, 10/8 against Wakefield at home. This match up is important for several reasons.....it is their last conference match, it is Senior Night and both teams should be battling for first place in the final conference standings, depending on Monday's results. Thursday, 10/10 will be the first round of the Cap 8 Conference Championships, and it will be at Holliday Gym, since the Lady Caps will be the higher seed!

Please come out and support this fabulous group of girls, show our seniors how much we support them and thank them for their years of hard work and help cheer these Lady Caps on to a Conference Championship!!!!!
