Broughton suffered an early exit from the Cap 8 conference tournament Monday night, losing 0-1 to a Wakefield team that the Caps had beaten twice in the regular season.
The Caps had several scoring opportunities throughout the first-round game -- including a flurry of chances toward the end of the game -- but were unable to get on the scoreboard. Wakefield scored the game's only goal about midway through the first half.
Broughton, which finished in a tie for third during the regular season, will now have to wait to find out about its prospects for the state playoffs. Depending on the results in the Cap 8 tournament, Broughton may have to play Millbrook on Thursday to determine who gets the conference's third seed for the playoffs.
In any event, Coach Nick Wheeler says Broughton is likely to make the state playoffs. The brackets are expected to be announced on Monday, Oct. 28.
