Broughton defeated Millbrook 1-0 Thursday night in a game that broke the tie between the two schools for third place in the Cap 8 conference.

The extra game, held at Sanderson before the Cap 8 tournament championship game, was played to sort out where Broughton and Millbrook will be placed in the upcoming state playoffs. The outcome of the championship game between Sanderson and Leesville could also play a role in determining Broughton's playoff fate.

The Caps took control of the game from the beginning, scoring less than two minutes into the first half when Ike Drooz put away a cross from Wilbur Gazga. Broughton controlled possession throughout the first half, and nearly scored again when the Millbrook keeper was forced to make a save on a shot by the Caps' Ibrahim Mohamud.

Keeper Trey Morton made a scrambling save off a Millbrook corner kick with just 30 seconds to go in the first half to preserve Broughton's 1-0 lead.

Millbrook was more aggressive in the second half, just missing on one shot when it hit the cross bar and another when keeper Frankie Stallings punched the ball away. But Broughton managed to hold on for the win, their second in three games against Millbrook this season.

State playoff brackets are scheduled to be released on Monday.
