Diving on Friday

Broughton divers will be in action Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the NCSU pool.  Admission is free.

Swimmers take Second

Broughton swimmers took second in a meet Tuesday against Athens, Holly Springs, and Southeast Raleigh.  Leading the boys were Will Close with a first in the 200 free and the 100 fly. Smith Moran took first in the 500 free and Bancks Holmes took first in the breaststroke.  The 400 free relay of Moran, Colter Carman, Jack Messenger, and Crandall Close also took first.   The women’s 200 free relay consisting of Genna Brewer, Alexandra Smalto, Carson Harvey and Adaira Brewer also took first.

Many swimmers had outstanding swims.  David Contreras cut 9 seconds off his 200 free.  Caroline Wills cut 6 seconds off her 500 free.  Sean Richards came down 2 seconds in the backstroke and Heather Johnson did the same in the breaststroke.  Cleesie Whittington came down 1 second in the 50 free and Morgan Denning did the same in the 100 free.  Crandall Close lowered his best times in both the 50 and 100 free.  Carter Hunt came down almost one second in the 100 free.

Lady Caps Once Again Hold Off Middle Creek; Big Game Monday Against Leesville High!

On Thursday, December 12th, the JV Women's Basketball Team once again defeated Middle Creek with a score of 33 to 23.  Freshman, Azhane Lawrence led the Caps with 16 points along with several rebounds and blocks.  Other points for the evening:  Amelia Rustin-8; Brittany Smith-5; Carol Seigler-2; Eliza Taylor-2.  Way to go Lady Caps!

Swimming and diving results

Broughton divers performed well at their first meet last week. Holt Gray took first place and Doug Scott took fourth. Alex Lewontin bettered his previous best score by 20 points. For the women, Angela Duncan took third, bettering her previous best score by 40 points, and Oksana Abee took fourth.

The Men’s swim team improved their record to 5-1 with resounding victories over Middle Creek, Knightdale and Wake Forest last week. The CAPS were led by Will Close with victories in the 200 IM and the 100 freestyle. Also winning events were Bancks Holmes in the 500 free, Smith Moran in the 200 free, Crandall Close in the butterfly, and Colter Carmen in the backstroke.

Many swimmers had great swims. Colter improved his IM time by 7 seconds and his backstroke by 2.5. David Contreras cut 2 seconds off his 100 free, Drew Kulak cut 2.5 seconds off his breaststroke and 5 seconds off his IM. John Paul Baric cut 1.5 seconds off his breaststroke, Will Beasley 2.5 seconds off his IM, William Hairston 1.5 in the 50 free, Carter Hunt 1.5 in the 50 free, Jacob Ludwick 1.3 in the 100 free, and Kyle Rohweder 1.5 in the 100 free.

The women beat both Wake Forest and Knightdale but lost to Middle Creek. The team was led by Adaira Brewer who won the 50 free and Genna Brewer who won the backstroke. Many had great swims. Morgan Denning and Addie Folk had personal bests in the 50 free. Sara Kiley Watson cut 3 seconds off her 100 free, Neely Whittington cut 2.5 seconds off her breaststroke, Sarah Wills cut 3 seconds off her 100 free and Emma Wilson cut 2 seconds off her backstroke.

Lady Caps hold off Middle Creek, but meet again this Thursday!

On Thursday, December 5th the JV Women held off a feisty Middle Creek team, winning 54-44.  The Mustangs were certainly a more organized team than we had seen at the opening scrimmage.  Thanks to a number of converted steals by Dixon, Rustin, Smith and Wilkins-Peebles, the Lady Caps were able to pull ahead.  Co-captain, Brittany Smith scored a record 29 points for the Lady Caps!  Other scorers for the evening:  Azhane Lawrence-11; Amelia Rustin-6; O'Shaela Wilkins-Peebles-6; Carol Seigler-2.

The Lady Caps take on Middle Creek at home this Thursday, December 12th at 5:30 pm.  Be sure to come out and cheer on the JV Women!

Lady Caps Win 53-7 Over Lee County!

In their first official home game of the season, the Junior Varsity Women came out to play at a fast pace and with tough defense. O'Shaela Wilkins-Peebles and Brittany Smith assisted each other in a number of awesome baskets.  Results on the night:  Brittany Smith-14 points, 1 assist; O'Shaela Wilkins-Peebles-8 points, 4 asssists; Carol Seigler-10 points'  Eliza Taylor-9 points; Shepard Barnes-4 points; Amelia Rustin-4 points; Jessica Dixon-2 points; Faith Bimm-2 points.  The team's next game is Thursday at Middle Creek.  Way to go, Lady Caps!!

Lady Caps Hoops off to a Good Start

Our Lady Caps Varsity basketball team has started the season 3-0 with victories at Southern Durham and Cardinal Gibbons and a home victory over Hoggard from Wilmington.  Our next home game is tonight versus Lee County.  Game time is 7pm, with the JV girls playing at 5:30pm.  Come out tonight and cheer on the Lady Caps!

Come Cheer on the Lady Caps-Tuesday, Dec. 3

Your Broughton Junior Varsity Women's Basketball team got off to a great start in their first game of the season, downing Southern Durham 43-23.  Despite being down several players, the ladies fought hard before falling to Cardinal Gibbons 47-43 in their game last Tuesday.  Come out and show your support for the JV Women's home opener against Lee County on Tuesday, December 3rd at 5:30.
