At the Swimming and Diving Conference Championships this past weekend,
the Broughton women took 4th place and the Men took
5th.
The women were led by Adaira Brewer and Carson
Harvey. Adaira took 4th in
the 100 free and 6th in the 50 free. Carson took 5th in the 50 free and
6th in the 100 free. The
women’s 200 free relay of Carson Harvey, Caroline Willis, Adaira Brewer, and
Genna Brewer took 3rd. Many
of the women had great swims, including Markie Nickens, who took 5 seconds off
her 200 free; Helen Semenova, who took 5 seconds off her IM and 1.5 off her
breaststroke; Eliza Krause, who took 3 seconds off her backstroke; and Morgan
Denning who lowered her 50 free by 1 second.
The men were
led by freshman Smith Moran, who won gold in the 500 free and took
5th in the IM. Will Close
took 2nd in the fly and 4th in the IM. Jack Messenger took 2nd in the 500
free, Crandall Close took 5th in the 200 free and Colter Carman took
6th in the 200 free. The
men’s 400 free relay of Jack Messenger, Smith Moran, Crandall Close, and Will
Close took 3rd. Other great
swims were had by Tyler Bryan-Harris, who took 4 seconds off his 200 free;
Richie Soltis who took 4 seconds off the IM, and Matthew Hodnett who took 2
seconds off his IM. Jack Messenger took
7 seconds off his 500 free. Smith Moran
had the best night of all taking 3 seconds off his IM and 10 seconds off his 500
free.
In diving,
Mary Brinn Gray took 5th and Angela Duncan took 6th in the
women’s meet while Holt Gray took 2nd in the men’s meet.
The team is
looking forward to performing well in the State Eastern Regionals which are this
Friday for diving and Saturday for swimming.
The diving will be held at Pullen Pool and the swimming at the Triangle
Aquatic Center in Cary.
