CapsLax Lose Two Close Games Last Week
After an exciting one goal win at home against Leesville Monday night, the men's varsity lacrosse team travelled to Leesville on Wednesday night. After jumping out to a 5-3 halftime lead, the Caps once again had a rough 3rd quarter, allowing Leesville to score 5 goals, 4 of them in man down, and take an 8-7 lead to start the 4th quarter. In the fourth, Zach Burgess and Davis Weaver each scored one goal and the defense held Leesville to 1 goal to end regulation in a tie at 9-9. In sudden death overtime, the Leesville Pride were able to get the goal to win 10-9. Zach Burgess led the Caps with 3 goals. Davis Weaver had 2 goals. Walker Rice added 1 goal and 2 assists. Troy Jones, Mitch Snyder, and William Rice had 1 goal and 1 assist each. Cameron Gilchrist and David Liggett had 1 assist each. On Saturday at noon the Caps faced the Millbrook Wildcats. The Wildcats clearly had more energy, jumping out to a 4-2 first quarter lead and a 6-4 halftime lead. Once again the Caps gave up 5 goals in the third quarter to fall behind 11-7 at the end of the 3rd quarter. The Caps were unable to make up the deficit and lost the game 14-11. Zach Burgess led the Caps with 3 goals. Walker Rice had 2 goals and 2 assists. Davis Weaver and Troy Jones added 2 goals each. Mitch Snyder had 1 goal and 2 assists. Jimbo Dixon added 1 goal and 1 assist. William Rice had 1 assist. The one highlight of the game was Drew Hinton winning 18 out of 21 faceoffs. Next up for the Caps is a game at Sanderson on Tuesday April 29, a home game vs. Wakefield on Friday May 2, and a final home game vs. Heritage (Senior Night) on Tuesday May 6. The state playoffs start Friday May 9.
