CapsLax Win Round 1 in Tight Game against Leesville
Senior Davis Weaver scored the winning goal with 24 seconds left in the game to beat rival Leesville 8-7 Monday night. Weaver received the ball from Troy Jones on the right wing, drove to the goal, receiving a pick from Jones, to hit a top side goal from 12 yards out to get the score. Following the faceoff, Goalie Paxton Massarelli made a final save for his 12th of the game. The Caps jumped out to a 4-0 goal lead in the first quarter and a 6-2 lead at the half. In a tense, penalty laden game, the Pride took advantage of man up opportunities scoring 6 of their 7 goals while in man up. The Pride kept chipping away at the Caps lead to tie it up with just a few minutes left in the 4th quarter. Leading the scoring was William Rice with 3 goals. Zach Burgess added 2 goals and 3 assists. Davis Weaver had 2 goals and Austin Bell added 1 goal. Mitchell Snyder added 1 assist. Defenseman Hayden Lovett had a stellar defensive game with 6 takeaways, 5 groundballs and no penalty minutes. Round 2 of this heavyweight bout is Wednesday night at Leesville at 6:30 PM. Do I hear road trip?
