CAPS SURVIVE OT AGAINST HUSKIES ON SENIOR NIGHT
On a perfect Spring evening for soccer, the Caps welcomed Cap 8 foe Heritage High School to Broughton and celebrated Senior Night. Broughton's lone draw of the season was the earlier game at Heritage on the night of the Miley Cyrus concert. The Caps would not let this one go, as a determined Broughton side fought hard against an aggressive, sometimes overly aggressive, Huskies team. Surprisingly though, it was the Caps that were called for a foul inside the Broughton 18 yard box that led to the Huskies being awarded a penalty kick. Junior 'keeper Allie Cutler read the kick perfectly, as it appeared to be gift wrapped and handed to her. After the first 80 minutes of regulation play the score remained nil-nil. The PK inspired the Caps and its supporters, as the home side took the lead just 3 minutes into the first 10 minute OT period when sophomore Daisy King fired a loose ball in the box past the Huskies goal keeper and into the back of the net. The teams battled for the remaining 17 minutes of the two OT periods with the Caps coming out on top. The Caps improved to 7-8-1 and fifth place (5-7-1) in Cap 8 competition. Broughton concludes the regular season Monday night at home against 10th ranked Millbrook High School. Come out and support the Caps as they make a push to qualify for the NCHSAA 4A tournament! Congratulations to the Broughton seniors and "thank-you" for your commitment to the Caps soccer program the past four years!
