Soccer: Caps set to kick off a new season

The Caps kick off the soccer season this week with an away game at Athens Drive High School on Monday night and the home opener on Tuesday against Southeast Raleigh.

Broughton is looking to build on last year's strong season, when they finished third in the Cap 8 Conference and made it to the second round of the state playoffs. The team returns three all-conference players - Matt Brickhouse, Jack Krueger and Chris Vlahoplus - as well as goalkeepers Trey Morton and Frankie Stallings and several players who played key roles on the varsity or junior varsity teams.

The season begins at 4:30 p.m. at Athens Drive with the junior varsity game, followed at roughly 6:30 by the varsity game.

Fan are encouraged to come out Tuesday for the home opener against Southeast Raleigh. There is no junior varsity game that day, so the varsity match will begin a half hour earlier than usual - at 6 pm. Come cheer on your Broughton Caps!
