After a timeout the Caps closed to 7-6 but the Vikes responded by pushing their lead to 14-9.  Conley  was two points away from forcing a fifth set at 23-22 but the hosts closed the affair with a 4-1 run punctuated by a kill from Adria Johnson on match-point.

Broughton will host perennial 4A east power John T. Hoggard in Saturday's 4th round contest (TBA). Hoggard's coach Ron Strickland holds the NCHSAA volleyball state record for most career wins with 744.  The Vikings (22-2) defeated Apex 3-2 in their third-round tilt on Thursday.
