Soccer: A bitter end to a sweet season for Caps

A storybook season for the Broughton Caps ended unhappily on a chilly Saturday night, as the Caps fell 0-1 to Reagan High School in the NCHSAA 4A state championship game at NC State.

The Caps possessed the ball for much of the game, particularly in the first half, but were unable to finish any of their scoring chances. The game was a defensive struggle throughout, with Reagan packing multiple defenders in and around the Broughton box.

After the first half ended in a scoreless tie, Reagan finally broke through with the game's lone goal about midway through the second half. Broughton had other scoring chances, including one shot that hit off the post with about seven minutes remaining in the game, but were unable to put one in the net.

Broughton finishes the year as Cap 8 Conference champions and NCHSAA 4A East champions. Congratulations, boys, on a great season. Go Caps!
