Soccer: Caps trio earns All-State honors

Three players on Broughton's varsity men's soccer team were recognized Sunday as members of the 2014 Men's 4A All-State soccer team.

Seniors Matt Brickhouse, Jack Krueger and Chris Vlahoplus were honored in an afternoon ceremony at the North Raleigh Hilton. They were joined by their families and Head Coach Nick Wheeler.

Only one other school - Southwest Guilford High School - had as many players named to the 4A All-State team as Broughton.

Krueger also was recognized as a member of the All-Mid-Atlantic Region team, one of 11 North Carolina high school players to make the team, which honors the best high school players from North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Delaware.

Wheeler was honored as the 4A regional coach of the year for Region 5.

The awards were presented by the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association.
