On Tuesday evening the Broughton Capitals women's soccer team traveled an hour and a half down east for a third round match against the #1 seed in the NCHSAA 4-A tournament, D. H. Conley Vikings.  Result?  Caps move on to the fourth round with a resounding 3-0 victory!  After a more than 30 minute weather delay due to thunderstorms, the Caps took it to the undefeated opponents when junior Sarah Grace Lasso sent a beautiful cross into the box that junior Julia Stevens connected with for a arching header that just cleared the goal keeper's hands just under the cross bar to put Broughton up 1-0. Twenty-two minutes later junior Emma Willard blasted a rocket at the defenseless Vikings keeper for the Caps second goal on the night. Junior Mattison Zinner credited with the assist. Finally, in the 38th minute Willard would receive the ball from junior Lily Schneider and again find the back of the net slotting a shot from the right side off the keeper's hand to put Broughton up 3-0. The Caps would persevere through a second half of some very physical down east soccer, and senior captain Allie Cutler would make some great saves to keep the clean sheet and send the Caps to the next round.  Broughton awaits the winner of #5 seed J. T. Hoggard High School and #29 seed Holly Springs High School.  If Hoggard, the Caps will travel to Wilmington Friday night, if Holly Springs, the Caps will be back home Friday night.
