It was a beautiful night for soccer in North Raleigh.
The Broughton Caps men's soccer team fell to the Leesville Road Pride 3-2 in a hard-fought Cap 8 The Pride struck first in the 24th minute, but Broughton co-captain Elvis Wiredu tied it up 7 minutes later after dribbling through several Leesville defenders and drilling the shot past the Pride keeper. Freshman midfielder Lucas Beeson put the Caps in the lead in the 52nd minute after a nice feed from Abdulle Ibrahim, all set up with a strong individual effort by Wiredu. Unfortunately, Broughton was unable to hold the lead, as Leesville took advantage of a Caps' defensive error in the 62nd minute. The back breaker came a minute later when a Leesville low-driving corner was buried by a charging Pride player. The Caps worked tirelessly to come back, but they resorted to lots of one-on-one soccer rather than playing cohesively, which Leesville was able to defend.
The Caps' record dropped to 5-4 on the season, 1-1 in Cap 8 play. Their next match is at home against Millbrook on Monday, September 21 at 6:30 pm.
