Volleyball Sweeps Panther Creek

Broughton downed host Panther Creek (4-2) 25-23, 26-24, 25-10 on Monday night to push their record to 5-0.  Kalee Vanderhorst had a match-high 21 kills (.429) and 3 aces and Katja Ehlers tallied 14 kills (.290) and 16 digs to lead the Caps.  Kati Smith posted 43 assists and 8 digs and Holli Smith had a team-high 19 digs.  Alden Willis added 12 digs and 3 aces and Rachel Byrd had 3 kills (.600) and 2 blocks.  Tiana Butler chipped in 5 kills and 3 digs.  Broughton hit a season-low .286 (44 kills, 10 errors, 105 attempts) and missed 11 serves while recording 8 aces.  The Caps scooped up a season-high 64 digs and averaged over 21 digs per set.

The Caps claimed the first set despite missing six serves in the first half of the game.  Broughton held a 12-5 advantage in the second frame but Panther Creek fought back to take a 24-23 lead before the Capitals scored three straight points to win it.  Broughton scored the first 7 points of the third set and eventually led 21-6.  The match featured two of the top teams in the area.  Broughton was ranked #2 in Monday's News & Observer Area Top 15 Poll while Panther Creek was ranked 11th.
