Broughton (19-0, 14-0) defeated Sanderson 25-18, 25-17, 25-8 on Monday night to close out their regular season. Kalee Vanderhorst tallied 12 kills (.381) and 4 digs and Katja Ehlers collected 9 kills (.263), 2 aces and 5 digs. Tiana Butler added 5 kills (.417), 6 aces and 4 digs and Kati Smith posted 25 assists, 2 kills, 2 aces and 4 digs. Grace Youngblood and Rachel Byrd each had 3 blocks and Holli Smith recorded 6 digs and 2 aces. Alden Willis chipped in 4 aces and piled up 10 straight service points in the third set to push the Caps from a 9-6 lead to a 19-6 advantage.
Sanderson finished the regular season with a 13-7 mark and 8-6 in conference play (4th place).
Kati Smith was named the North Carolina AVCA/MaxPreps Player of the Week (10/12-19) after handing out 88 assists in 7 sets (12.57 per set) in the two Broughton wins last week. Kati notched her 1500th career assist in last Thursday's victory over Millbrook and she leads the Cap-8 in assists per set (10.9).
Broughton will host a first round state tournament match this Saturday (TBA).
