The Broughton men's soccer team got off to a solid start in the 4A NCHSAA playoffs, topping the South View Tigers, 3-0, in a match that was not nearly as close as the score would indicate. The Caps dominated the entire match to the point where at one point, South View failed to possess the ball in the attacking half of the field over a 17 minute stretch.
Senior striker Elvis Wiredu scored two goals to lead the Caps, tallying scores in the 7th and 46th minutes. In the 26th minute, Gray Gwaltney scored for the third match in a row, knocking home a shot off of a brilliant cross from Abdulle Ibrahim.
The Caps outshot the Tigers 36-8. Clay Oxford and Jack Nickens combined for the clean sheet, although they only had to make one save the entire evening.
The Caps will face a familiar opponent in the second round in Leesville Road, the Cap 8 champions. The match will likely be on Saturday and will be at Leesville. Kickoff time has not yet been announced.
