The Broughton girls’ lacrosse team improved to 2-0 with a 17-5 win Friday night over the Sanderson Spartans at Gregson Stadium.
Senior Hattie Warner opened the scoring for the Caps at 23:58. From that point, the Caps scored 10 consecutive goals. Sanderson standout senior Aubrey Nagle then scored twice for the Spartans to cut the lead to 11-2, but by halftime the Caps were up 13-2.
Leading scorers for Broughton were Hattie Warner and Farrell Guest with four goals each, followed by Carol Seigler (3), Leaha Renee Burgess (2) and Georgia Davis, EJ Fuller, Sydney Russell, and Margaret Anne Warner with one each.
Aubrey Nagle scored all five of Sanderson’s goals.
Leading Broughton in assists were Carol Seigler (5) and Sydney Russell (3). Of note was junior Carson Harvey who held Sanderson to five goals in her first start in goal.The Caps continue next week with two big road games, Tuesday night at Chapel Hill and Wednesday night at last year’s conference champion Wakefield
