One night after clawing out a 1-0 win at home against Wake Forest, the Caps lit up the scoreboard when they traveled to northern Wake County on Thursday. Senior Emma Willard started the scoring early when she slotted a ball through two defenders and past the Cougar keeper in the 3rd minute.
Wake Forest responded with a goal of their own on a free kick from outside the box in the 9th minute to tie the score at 1-1.
But Broughton quickly regained the lead when senior Lily Schneider buried a corner from freshman Ava Neijna in the 10th minute. Then, in the 36th minute, sophomore Meredith Brown blasted a shot from outside the box after gathering a rebound of a shot by Schneider to put the Caps up 3-1 heading into the half.
The Caps continued to generate scoring chances as the second half got underway, including one instance in which a shot by Schneider (reminiscent of a similar situation on Wednesday night) fired a shot that appeared to hit the inside of the post. But less than two minutes later, senior Sarah Grace Lasso finished off a pass from Schneider to give the Caps a 4-1 lead.
Wake Forest tried to get back into the game and, during one two-minute stretch, earned multiple corner kicks that all came up empty. The final score was 4-1.
Earlier, the Broughton junior varsity earned a 4-0 victory over Wake Forest, with two goals by Anne Lassiter Barnes and goals by Emma Appleby and Lily Roth.
