The Broughton Men's Tennis team needed to avenge an earlier season 4-5 loss to the Spartans when it hosted Sanderson on Wednesday the 13th. Coach Mann provided the team with some extra incentive in order to get maximum effort against the school's rival. The Caps did not disappoint! Blaise Waters held up strong at the #1 singles spot beating his opponent 6-2, 7-6(3) and Yates Kline took care of Hunter Moore 6-3, 6-0 at #2 singles. At #3 singles, Makie Michaux lost a close third-set tiebreaker to his Spartan opponent 2-6, 5-7, 7-10 and Lucius Harvin fell 6-7, 2-6 to Greer Webb at the #4 spot. Will Beasley finished just shy of his #5 singles opponent after splitting sets and losing a heartbreaking third set tiebreaker 6-10. Louis Wooten turned the tables on his #6 seeded Sanderson opponent by crushing him in yet another third set tiebreaker 6-2, 3-6, 10-3. That left the match all tied at 3-3 at the completion of the singles competition.
Just like the Caps did against Leesville Road the previous week, Broughton swept the Spartans in the doubles round. Waters and Beasley won 9-8(4) at #1 doubles and Michaux and Harvin took care of things at #2 doubles 8-6. The Spartans were no competition for Kline and Sammy Brock at the #3 doubles spot as they won 8-2 to make the final score Broughton 6, Sanderson 3.
Later in the week, Broughton lost a tough match at back-to-back defending State champion, Wakefield.
