Caps drop road game at Heritage

The Lady Caps soccer team suffered a 1-3 loss in a physical game at Heritage Monday night.

Broughton struggled early, playing into a stiff wind that made it difficult to clear that ball from the defensive end. The Huskies struck first, converting a penalty kick in the 14th minute to take an 0-1 lead.

The Lady Caps fought back, though, with senior Lily Schneider finishing off a corner kick by junior Liza Cozart in the 24th minute to tie the score at 1-1. But Heritage was able to score again, in the 33rd minute, to take 1-2 lead into the half.

The Huskies were on the attack immediately as the second half began, forcing senior keeper Eliza Taylor to make a nice save less than a minute after play resumed. It was one of two great saves by Taylor in the half, while senior defender Kelly Ann Evans broke up a Heritage breakaway in the 55th minute.

But Heritage was able to pad their lead to 1-3 in the 57th minute when it scored on a free kick from just outside the box.

Broughton had its share of scoring chances in the second half, including one breakaway that was snuffed out by the Heritage keeper, but was unable to get on the scoreboard a second time.

Earlier, the Broughton junior varsity lost its first game of the season, 0-3.
