Lady Caps drop overtime game to Sanderson

The Lady Caps soccer team suffered a heart-breaking loss Tuesday night when Sanderson scored off a corner late in the 2nd overtime period to claim an 0-1 victory.

The Caps played tough defense throughout the game, with the back line of seniors Kelly Ann Evans, Julia Stevens and Lily Highsmith, junior Savannah Jones and sophomore Lucy Krueger making it tough for Sanderson to even get a shot off. Senior keeper Eliza Taylor made a save on a tricky lofted ball by Sanderson as the final seconds of regulation time were ticking off to send the game to overtime, and Jones headed out a dangerous Sanderson corner early in the second overtime period.

Broughton managed to create several scoring chances, particularly late in the game and in overtime. But none of the shots found the back of the net, either sailing just wide or at the Sanderson keeper.

Earlier, sophomore Anne Lassiter Barnes scored both goals to give the Broughton junior varsity a 2-0 win over Sanderson.
