The Lady Caps soccer team suffered a 1-5 loss Tuesday night to an undefeated Leesville team that is at the top of the Cap 8 standings a little more than halfway through the season.
The Caps struggled to maintain possession throughout the first half as Leesville came at them in waves, scoring three goals in the game's first 20 minutes. Broughton managed to earn a couple of corner kicks, but were unable to convert their chances.
Broughton settled down late in the first half, and had a couple of shots that sailed just high or wide. Sophomore defender Lucy Krueger kept Leesville from scoring again with four minutes left in the half when she headed out a Leesville shot off of a corner that appeared to be heading into the goal.
Leesville kept the pressure on as the second half began, scoring a fourth goal just three minutes into the period. They scored again about 10 minutes later to take a 0-5 lead.
The Lady Caps managed to create a few more scoring chances, but hit the cross bar on one shot and sent another shot wide left. Broughton avoided the shutout when freshman Sara Hanna Fortier headed in a cross from freshman Ava Neijna to make the final score 1-5.
Earlier, Broughton's junior varsity lost 0-2 to Leesville.
