The Broughton girls’ lacrosse team advanced to the third round of state playoffs with a 20-5 home win Saturday afternoon against Greenville J. H. Rose.
In the first round, the Rose Rampants had defeated Leesville by a goal, and Broughton had drawn a bye.
In Saturday’s second round game, Coach Yoder’s Caps took a commanding lead early and were never seriously challenged. Broughton scored the first 8 goals of the game, held an 11-2 halftime lead, and added to their lead through the second half.
The Caps starting defense, Reed Proctor, Anneka Pace, Greer Eckard, Marcy Waters and goalie Carson Harvey were too strong for the Rampants’ deliberate, patient offense.
Broughton’s offense continued what has become their great strength this year: a fast paced attack with multiple weapons, with an ability to score from any quarter. Farrell Guest led the Caps with five goals. Also contributing were Hattie Warner (4), Carol Seigler (4), Margaret Anne Warner (3), EJ Fuller (2) and Leaha Renee Burgess (2).
The Caps continue play Tuesday May 10 at home against non-conference rival Chapel Hill.
