Following a disappointing defeat against the Gibbon Crusaders, the Caps turned it around Monday afternoon with a bang in a 5-0 road victory against the Clayton Comets.
Broughton started the match slowly, connecting their passes and dominating possession. But after many opportunities, they couldn't put it in the back of the net until there was 3 minutes left in the first half. They finally broke down the defense with a ball played through to sophomore Max Lewis who put it away in the bottom left corner to make it 1-0. Not even a minute later sophomore Joan Carlo Ramirez Orozco dribbled the ball up the left side and finished it near post with the outside of his right foot to make it 2-0 going into the halftime break.
After a half filled with interruptions from the Clayton announcer, the Caps started the second half dominating possession once again. This resulted in a half field screamer from sophomore Peter Abatangelo that bounced of the Clayton keeper's hands and into the net to make it 3-0. After a brief spell of possession passing from the Caps, they worked it just outside of the Clayton box and played sophomore Carter Gasia through to tuck the ball in the near right corner. Quickly after Broughton received a free kick just outside of the box after a foul on freshman Than Oo. The free kick taken by freshman Jack Eubank hit the wall. He got the ball back and this time put one top left corner from outside the area for one more goal for the Caps. With almost no shots on goal, the Broughton keepers freshman Sam Vlahoplus and sophomore Hector Martinez Porras and their defense helped keep the clean sheet against the Comets making the final score 5-0.
The JV Caps play next this Thursday away at Athens Drive.
