Volleyball Improves to 3-0

The Caps traveled to Holly Springs on Monday night and came home with a 25-18, 25-20, 25-12 victory over the Golden Hawks (3-1).  Broughton fell behind 7-2 in the second frame after jumping to a one set lead.  Jade Demps' ace gave the visitors a 13-11 lead and two straight aces by Amber Russell pushed the lead to 18-13.  Holly Springs closed the deficit to 19-18 before Kalee Vanderhorst had a kill and an ace to give the Caps a 21-18 edge.  Another kill by Demps stretched the advantage to 24-20 before a Holly Springs hitting error ended the set.  Five consecutive serving points by Claire Sawyer gave Broughton a 10-1 lead to open the third stanza.  Two straight aces by Demps made it 15-2 and a Vanderhorst kill and block pushed the lead to 17-3.  Peyton Kendall's kill closed out the match.

Kalee Vanderhorst led the Caps with 14 kills (.444), 12 digs and 3 aces and Jade Demps posted 12 kills (.458), 5 aces, 4 blocks and 4 digs.  Claire Sawyer tallied 28 assists and 5 aces and Amber Russell collected 6 digs and 2 aces.  Holli Smith and Alden Willis each scooped up 5 digs and Grace Youngblood (.333) and Peyton Kendall (.500) each had 3 kills.  Broughton posted season highs in hitting percentage (.408) and service aces (16).

The Capitals travel to Rolesville (3-1) on Thursday with game times at 4:30 (JV) and 5:30 (Varsity).
