In a game that the score doesn't do justice to the domination on the field, the #2 Caps (6-0-1) shook off the rust and defeated #3 Middle Creek 5-2. The victory, combined with wins by Leesville Road and Millbrook, clinched the Cap-8/SWAC Challenge for the Cap-8.
The Caps started out strong as Edson Candela-Perez finished a nice pass from Abdulle Ibrahim to give us a lead less than 10 minutes into the game. Not five minutes later, Sophomore Lucas Beeson drove through the Middle Creek defense to beat the GK and put the Caps up 2-0. Edson added his second goal of the half and the Caps were up 3-0. Middle Creek scored a goal off a long throw in and the half ended 3-1.
The second half was much the same as the first and Edson completed the hat trick (his first of what I'm sure will be many) off an assist from Cesar Gonzalez to make the score 4-1. Then, the goal of the night came from Junior Donovan Nicholson - who chested down a long pass and with one turn - rifled a volley past the GK from 25 yards out.
Middle Creek got one more goal before the end to make the final 5-2 Caps.
The depth of this team is becoming clearly evident and the blog would be remiss to not point out the play of Sophomore Bryce Meredith and Senior Enrico Lalonga for their control of the midfield and the defense as a whole: Esteban, Jacob, Duncan, Lex, Ivey, Joe and Caleb.
The #2 Caps have two games next week: Monday @ Wake Forest and then a showdown on Wednesday - at home - against defending Cap-8 champions Leesville Road.
