In a game decided over the last 15 minutes, the #3 Broughton Capitals fought valiantly, but came up short against #1 Green Hope in the Wake County Cup final 4-1.
The Caps started off strong against the Falcons and it was only an amazing 30 yard shot that put them up 1-0. Consistent pressure from Junior Donovan Nicholson, Sophomore Andrew Rossetti and Seniors Enrico Lalonga and Abdulle Ibrahim resulted in a controversial no goal on a shot from Abdulle that seemed to hit the bar and bounce into the goal and then out. The Falcons then scored with 16 seconds left to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The second half started much like the first and Donovan, who was strong in the air all night, finished off a great cross and headed it home to make it 2-1 with 30 minutes left in the match. The Caps pressed hard for the tying goal with midfielders Graham Gunter and Lucas Beeson fighting for every loose ball, but Green Hope proved why they were the #1 team in NC in the last 15 minutes scoring the third and fourth goals before the game ended 4-1.
The Caps will learn from this game and experience as we crank up the Cap 8 schedule this week with games on Monday (@Wakefield), Tuesday (Sanderson) and Wednesday (@Enloe).
