Caps Soccer Uses Strong Second Half to Defeat Wakefield 6-1

Showing no signs of fatigue from their loss in the WCC Final on Saturday night, the #3 Broughton Capitals (9-2-1) used a five (5) goal explosion in the second half to defeat a very frisky Wakefield team 6-1.

The Caps leveraged their depth in this game as nine (9) new starters made their appearance for the squad and controlled play for the first 20 minutes.  The scoring opened just after 30 minutes as Freshman Edson Candela-Perez celebrated his return from club play to rocket a shot in the top corner to give us the 1-0 lead.  Abdulle Ibrahim created several great chances and Andrew Rossetti saw his free kick from 25 yards out tipped off the post to leave the score 1-0 at halftime.

The second half didn't start as well and Wakefield's pressure resulted in a 1-1 tie 10 minutes into the second half.  However, Broughton showed its resiliency and poured on five goals in the last 25 minutes.  The scoring was led by Junior Donovan Nicholson who scored the next three goals in short succession - with assists from Jack Ashby, Edson and Enrico.  Junior Ewan Reynolds opened his account with a follow up to a corner kick and the scoring ended with Senior Sam Stein drawing the PK and senior Luis Hernandez finishing the PK to end the game 6-1.

No rest for the Caps as - weather permitting - they play co-leaders Sanderson at home at 6:30p at Broughton.
