Leesville Road Hands Volleyball First Loss

Leesville Road (9-2, 4-1) handed visiting Broughton (9-1, 4-1) their first regular season loss since 2013 on Thursday night 16-25, 24-26, 25-12, 25-14, 15-10.  The Caps claimed the opening set before finding themselves down 18-9 in the second frame.  A kill by Kalee Vanderhorst sparked a furious 17-6 run by the visitors that gave them a 2 sets to 0 advantage.  The Pride jumped out to 6-1 leads in winning each of the next to games.  Leesville Road took a 6-2 edge to begin the fifth set but kills by Grace Youngblood and Vanderhorst closed the gap to 8-6.  Broughton could get no closer and a kill by Sarah Gasper ended the match.

Kalee Vanderhorst posted a match-high 24 kills (.526) and collected a team-high 21 digs and Jade Demps added 11 kills, 10 digs and 3 aces.  Grace Youngblood had 5 kills and 2 blocks and Peyton Kendall added 3 kills.  Claire Sawyer tallied 37 assists, 7 digs and 2 blocks and Alden Willis scooped up 10 digs.

Daniela McDonald led the Pride with 20 kills (.400) and Sarah Gasper added 10 kills (.348).  Sydney Wilson recorded a match-high 4 aces and Jordan Gower picked up 24 digs.

The Capitals host Millbrook (5-4, 4-1) on Tuesday (4:30/5:30).
