Broughton (10-1, 5-1) defeated visiting Millbrook (5-5, 4-2) 25-12, 25-19, 25-23 on Tuesday night in Raleigh. The Caps claimed a 4-0 edge to open the match behind Claire Sawyer's four consecutive service points. A kill from Nan Parrish and an ace by Holli Smith gave Broughton a commanding 21-11 lead and kills from Kalee Vanderhorst and Jade Demps closed the set. Amber Russell's ace gave the hosts a 5-3 lead to begin the second stanza and a kill from Vanderhorst and another Russell ace pushed the advantage to 16-11. The Wildcats pulled to 18-15 before a kill by Demps made it 19-15. Alden Willis pounded out consecutive aces and another Vanderhorst kill gave Broughton a 23-17 lead. A block by Peyton Kendall and Jade Demps ended the game. Milbrook jumped out to a 11-5 lead to begin the third frame but two kills from Demps and one from Vanderhorst drew the Capitals to 11-8. Grace Youngblood's kill knotted the score at 12-12 and the two teams went back and forth until a Vanderhorst kill gave the Caps their first lead of the set at 18-17. Millbrook surged back ahead grabbing a 23-21 advantage. A kill from Demps pulled Broughton within one at 23-22 and a kill from Vanderhorst tied the set at 23-23. An ace from Demps gave the Caps the lead and a Vanderhorst kill closed out the match.
Kalee Vanderhorst paced Broughton with 19 kills (.485) and 8 digs and Jade Demps tallied 18 kills (.556), 2 blocks and 4 digs. Grace Youngblood had 4 kills (.200) and 3 blocks and Nan Parrish chipped in 3 kills (.273). Claire Sawyer posted 37 assists and 7 digs and Amber Russell and Alden Willis each picked up 6 digs. Holli Smith recorded a match-high 4 aces. Taylor Rebne led Millbrook with 11 kills (.286) and Patty Delmedico dished out 19 assists.
Broughton travels to Sanderson (7-7, 3-3) on Thursday (4:30/5:30).
